Kataware Doki
Exploring surrealism during twilight hours.
I was deeply moved by the movie Your Name (directed by Makoto Shinkai in 2016) due to myriad reasons. One of the reasons was the presented theme of juxtaposition between reality and surrealism during "Kataware Doki" or twilight hours. The movie states that Kataware Doki is a Japanese term spoken in the Hida Dialect which translates to twilight: a time of the day where it is neither daytime nor nighttime. Therefore, Kataware Doki hours, or minutes, are when lines between the natural and supernatural are blurred. In other words, like a mystical hour where anything can happen-breaking the rules of science and all.
